The Dutch Elasmobranch Society is pleased to host the 21st European Elasmobranch Association Conference from 12-14 October in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We hope to meet you at a stimulating conference where the latest and greatest in elasmobranch research will be presented. In keeping with the EEA’s role in providing an interface between science and policy, we have chosen as an underlying theme for this year’s meeting:
“The science you need for the policy you want”
Conference sessions will cover, but are not limited to: perspectives for spatial management; movement ecology; coherence in international legislation and policy; selectivity, survival, and discards of elasmobranchs in fisheries; and elasmobranch husbandry. We have invited internationally renowned keynote speakers to introduce the sessions.
Starting on Thursday, October 12th (1 pm), and ending on Saturday, October 14th (5 pm), the conference will include a diverse program of lectures and breakout sessions on key topics in the study of cartilaginous fishes. A poster session will be organized on Saturday and every poster presenter will be allowed to pitch his or her topic on the main stage. The icebreaker event on Thursday evening will be held at a nearby venue and on Friday evening, there will be a public event. The conference dinner is set for the final Saturday evening. In addition, an excursion will be offered on Sunday the 15th.
The three-day conference will be held at grand building of the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), only a stone’s throw away from the city center with all its famous historical sites and landmarks, and within walking distance of the Amsterdam Zoo and several beautifully landscaped parks.
Prices are € 140,- for EEA members; € 175,- for non-EEA members and € 110,- for students. Costs include lunch on Friday and Saturday and tea/coffee/ refreshments on all days, as well as the icebreaker event on Thursday evening. Costs to attend a single day are € 75,- (€ 55,- for students). The conference dinner will be approximately € 45,-. As always, we will reward bursaries to a limited number of presenting students to help them cover the cost of attending the meeting.
