Dear shark and ray friends,

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that this year’s European Elasmobranch Association Annual Meeting will an in person event and shall be held in Leiden, The Netherlands between 3rd and 5th November. For those unable to physically travel to Leiden, we will hold an online meeting prior to the EEA on November 2nd .

We plan to present you with a stimulating program bringing together the latest in elasmobranch science and new insight in conservation policy. We have chosen as overriding theme for the conference:

“Are we there yet?

What developments in the science and policy landscape have delivered for shark and ray conservation

We are lucky to have, once again, secured the natural history museum Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden as our venue. Leiden is a beautiful old university town just 20 mins from Schiphol airport and international train station. The world class Naturalis museum was named European Museum of the year in 2021.

Because of ongoing uncertainty around the Covid-19 virus we will continue to monitor development in The Netherlands. At this time the prospects here are looking good.

Abstract submission is now closed

Registration is open until October 27

Information on the program can be found here

If you have any questions on the EEA2021 conference please send us an email at

Looking forward to seeing you in Leiden!

With warm wishes,

Paddy and Irene
